Meet the Editor of PMLA, Brent Hayes Edwards, at VUB, 20-21 May 2025! Join a panel discussion on academic publishing in the humanities, a workshop (VUB early career scholars only), and a public lecture entitled “
The Centre for Literary and Intermedial Crossings, in collaboration with the VUB Doctoral Schools, is happy to host Brent Hayes Edwards, the current editor of PMLA (Publications of the Modern Language Association), for two days in May 2025. PMLA is the flagship journal of the Modern Language Association, a professional organisation with over 20,000 members in a hundred countries. The journal is highly ranked, highly renowned and publishes outstanding work in the field of literary studies in several languages.
On 20 and 21 May, Edwards will be sharing his expertise with interested researchers during three events at VUB. All events are free of charge, but preregistration is required:
- 20 May, 10:00-13:30: Plenary discussion on academic publishing, followed by a networking lunch
- 20 May, 13:30-17:30: Workshop (for VUB early career scholars only)
- 21 May, 16:00-17:30: Lecture “Editing Diaspora: Translating Black Culture across Borders”, followed by a reception
These events will be organized in the beautiful Glass Hall of the new USquare building in Brussels (Blvd Géneral Jacques 210A, 1050 Ixelles), and, with the exception of the workshop, are open to the public.
