Conference on German writer and screenwriter Helga Schütz

18 & 19 April 2024 | Brechthaus  Berlin

On 18 and 19 April 2024, there will be a conference on the work of German writer Helga Schütz at the Brechthaus in Berlin. Helga Schütz, now almost 87 years old, was involved in many DEFA films as a screenwriter and scenarist and is still active as a writer. As an author, she belongs to the circle around Christa Wolf. In 2021, Aufbau-Verlag recently published a collection of short stories entitled ‘Heimliche Reisen’ (Secret Journeys), which received much acclaim (see Christoph Dieckmann’s review in ‘Die Zeit’). If you are interested but not there, you can find the recording of the event later on the website of the Literaturforum im Brechthaus. Some knowledge of German is beneficial.

The aim of the conference is to connect Helga Schütz’s work with today’s academic research and make it accessible to a wider audience. We are particularly pleased that both the author and her editor will be taking part and that we have been able to attract an illustrious international company for the conference and evening event.
